2015: A Year in Review

It is so insane to me that I am already doing another one of these! 2015 is quite possibly my favorite year to date. This year will be one that I never forget. Quite honestly, I am pretty sad to say "goodbye" to this year already.

2015: The Year of Extreme Beauty Trends...

...that I never want to see again.

I don't know about you but, I couldn't help but roll my eyes over some of the "beauty trends" that became a thing in 2015. I don't know if it was silly celeb influences or people wanting to become a walking tumblr but really-

1. bubble nails
like who saw this and was like "yeah I want a bubble on my nail bed"

2. glitter parts
now, you all know my love of glitter but this is way, way overboard. at what occasion would this be appropriate for?

3. side shave why? so that you can deal with an awkward "growing it out" stage when you have decided to stop being "trendy"?

4. overdrawn lips
kylie jenner, sit down. do you slay the hair game, yes. do you slay the snap chat game, yes. do you slay the lip game? no. sit down. and chill. plus, over drawing your lips is a huge waste of product.

5. grey hair...on a 20 year old
no. no. no. no. ugh this is awful to me. you are 20-30 years old, look like it. you will have ashy locks soon enough.

What trends could you not stand this year?

Winter in Florida..

So, if you pay any attention to the weather reports, you will know that it has not gotten below 78* this year-well, except for this past Saturday and Sunday. If you know me, you know that I would live in an igloo if I could so, I was loving the weather this weekend.

I shamelessly went full on #basicwhitegirl and I am not mad about it. I was getting pretty bummed out that I had spent so much on a cute cooler-weather wardrobe because it wasn't looking like I would be able to use any of it. When I woke up Saturday morning, I knew a mini photo sesh had to happen to document not only my new favorite pieces and the cooler weather because lets be real, if you don't insta it, did it really happen?!

What is your winter go to outfit?

Candied Cranberries [Recipe]

Happy three days until Christmas my loves! Today we are talking a festive treat that is sure to brighten up any holiday dessert!

Aside from the stuffing, the best part of a fall/winter holiday meal is the desserts. They always say that you eat with your eyes first so, a few candied cranberries are sure to make a dessert go from a 5 to a 10 plus, they are a yummy (and addictive) snack, and they are a perfect for an insta photo op!

What You Will Need

-12 oz fresh cranberries
-3 3/4 cups of sugar (divided)
-1 3/4 cups of water
-1 tsp of vanilla
-zest of one orange (I used clementines)
-juice of one orange

What You Will Do
-in a sauce pan over a medium heat, add 2 1/2 cups of sugar, water, vanilla, orange juice, and orange zest
-stir frequently until sugar has fully dissolved
-turn to a boil and add cranberries
-remove from heat and stir
-once pan is cool enough to handle, cover the cranberries with a small plate to push the cranberries into the syrup
-when pan is completely cool, cover and place in fridge overnight
---next day---
-using a slotted spoon, transfer cranberries from pan to a ziplock bag
-add remaining sugar, seal bag, and shake
-once all of the cranberries are coated, place in an airtight container until ready to use

Pro Tip:
-keep the syrup. it makes for a great syrup for cranberry mojitos

So back in November, the SYBL group posted that they were going to do their first annual Christmas Swap Box. If you know me, you know I am always ready for a good swap. They set a $20 limit + shipping. I was so ready to get shopping.

I was paired with my girl Lexi from A Blissful Haven and I couldn't have been more excited. Lexi and I have a lot in common, we are both dog lovers, Buckeye fans and coffee drinkers!

I think Lexi picked the perfect items for me:

adorable Christmas mug and Hot Chocolate to enjoy with it!

Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite scent/flavor is birthday cake!

Caramel corn is my biggest vice! This may or may not already be gone!

Swap boxes are so much fun and a great way to get to know fellow bloggers! I highly suggest you join one if you can!

Happy Monday!

Holiday Movie Night Essentials

this post was written in collaboration with Casper. all thoughts are my own.

I feel like you know you have reached "adult life" when you would rather stay in and watch movies over going out on a Friday night. If you ask John, he would proudly tell you that he would prefer to order take out, make a comfy spot, and snuggle up watching movies than go to a bar on any night-I have come to enjoy this as well.

We have learned that you can't simply put on a movie and start watching all willy-nilly. No! You have to have all the essentials!

First and foremost, you have to have a comfy spot! We love to pile all of our pillows and blankets on our bed and make a little nest for ourselves to snuggle up in. The key part in this is a good quality soft mattress like this one from Casper. We love to just sink into a mattress so we feel like we are on a cloud.

Around this time of year, festive PJs are a must. I always get J and I a matching pair of PJs each year from Old Navy. We also get the pups little onesies from Target. Like is it really even Christmas without thematic PJs?

When we do movie nights, we bring the whole fam into our nest. John, Yoda, Chloe and I all snuggle up together.

In our house, our tree is set up outside of our bedroom so we can see it twinkle from our bed. We like to have all of our bedroom lights off and just the light of the tree on in the house so it is pretty much pitch black like a theater. The tree lights add that touch of a romantic feel..and also keep us from stubbing our toes when we get up to change the movies!

The Christmas season is my favorite time of year for a good movie binge night. From rom-coms like Love Actually to classics like Miracle on 34th Street, the most important part of a movie night is the movie. Our all time favorite Christmas movie is The Santa Clause-you just can't go wrong with Tim Allen!

These are our holiday movie night essentials, what are yours?

Be Merry: A Christmas Q&A

With only eleven days until Christmas, I figured a Christmas Q&A would be appropriate. I love a good Q&A sesh and was hoping a fun one would come along but I wasn't crazy about others I had seen so I decided to make my own! I hope you all decide to create your own posts with the questions below!

what is your most notable Christmas memory?
I literally had the mom of mom's when it came to the holidays when we were younger. Up until I learned the Santa secret, my momma would go all out. All of my Christmases were memorable because we would wake up to Santa prints at the foot of our beds leading out to the living room where we'd be greeted with a tree swimming in presents. The cookies would be gone along with the veggie platter for the reindeer. When we'd go outside to take pictures/play we would see reindeer prints. That momma of mine was pretty clever.

name a favorite Christmas tradition?
ok so, I have two for this. 1. on Christmas Eve, I make a "night before christmas" box for J since he is an antsy little one when it comes to presents. the box includes Christmas PJs, a few snacks/treats, hot chocolate mix and a Christmas movie for us to watch together. This sort of holds him off from getting into the real presents. 2. Christmas day, we wake up and facetime all of J's family and do our present opening. Then, we watch the parade and get ready before heading to my families house. My mom and I spend the morning cooking, we open presents, then feast.

winter Starbucks drink order?
a grande white peppermint mocha with soy milk and an extra shot-gotta refuel after all the shopping! or, a grande salted caramel hot chocolate (with a side of bailey's once it gets to me)

what is your favorite winter treat?
savory: stuffing hands down.
sweet: lindt truffles or pecan pie

favorite sounds of the season?
the sweet, sweet sounds of Michael Buble

snow or no snow?
Christmas isn't Christmas to me without snow. However, since we live in Florida, I have to live vicariously through John's family. If there is one thing I regret about moving back to FL, it would be the lack of season changes.

what is your typical Christmas fashion?
We usually stay in our PJ's up until we are ready to leave for my mommas. I will then typically throw on leggings, boots, and a festive top.

what is number one on your wish list this year?
a rose gold morganite ring *cough* in a size 8.. *cough*

favorite Christmas movie?
by myself: This Christmas, Four Christmases, or Home Alone
with J: Love Actually, The Holiday, or Christmas with the Cranks
with the littles: ELF or How The Grinch Stole Christmas
with family: Polar Express or Santa Claus
see what I did there? I just can't pick one!

favorite Christmas scent?
Pine and Citrus

Don't forget to post your answers to the questions either in the comments or in your own post!

Hello Friday

Happy Friday Loves!
I can not believe we are only 20 days away from a new year! This week was a busy one filled with a little bit of everything from gym seshes to Osbourne lights!

I started the week off with an early morning gym sesh. Since J and I signed up for the Y, we have been going really well at getting there everyday. I have been considering doing some of the classes and I finally pulled the trigger. I joined the Les Mills Body Pump class. Holy Hell.. it kicked my butt but I really enjoyed it! I am going to try a few more classes next week, pick my favorites and get myself on a schedule. I spent the rest of the day doing blog stuff, running some errands and snuggling with the puppies.

Grammie J and I decided to make an impromptu trip up to Orlando. We went to the Christmas Tree Shop since that is her favorite store from up north. Since we were up there, we decided to make a day of it so we went to lunch and then over to Disney. We went to Hollywood Studios for the Osbourne Lights and holy cow were they amazing!

Grammie had a laundry list of errands to run so I tagged along with her. We then went to a local farm, Hundaders that does a "You Pick" each crop season. For $8 they give you a shopping bag which you can fill to the brim with tomatoes. We both had a bag each and a total of 55 tomatoes! I see sauce and salsa in our future! Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a strawberry shortcake!

Our wedding invitations finally arrived! I spent literally all day addressing, assembling, and stamping them. By 5pm I wanted to cut my hand off. I finally finished around 6. I am so excited to mail them out tomorrow! While I was addressing, we had our first batch of sauce cooking! We also addressed and stamped our Christmas cards which we will send out next week! I spent the rest of the night snuggling with the dogs, watching ELF and then watching Lifetime Christmas movies.

I hope you all have fabulous weekends! It is off to the post office for me!

2015 Holiday Gift Guide: My Wishlist

If you ask John how he picks my gifts, he would say "her pinterest" simply because he literally begs me every year to make a special board just for him so he "doesn't pick something dumb" but, as we all know, sometimes repins lead to dead links/products that are no longer there so, to further help him along this year, I thought I would also do a wishlist blog post.

2015 Holiday Gift Guide:For Her

Shopping for the women in my life is probably my favorite part of gifting. I really like to focus on their personality. Do they travel? Are they sporty? glam? Do they like to cook? I try to be super personal with each of them.

Weekend Rewind

Well hey there! if you are a regular around here, you will notice things look a little bit different. I spent a majority of my down time last week working on rebranding myself and my bloggity blog. basically, with our wedding coming up and the possibility of trying for little ones in the next 2-3 years, I wanted to make this space something that can grow with me, John and I and our family. I am in love with the way everything turned out!
