The Local Tourist Project {Pt. 5: The Beach}

Happy Tuesday my caffeinated loves! Welcome back to my current love, The Local Tourist Project.  When I spent the time photographing and exploring this section of my city, it hit me kind of hard.
As I stated when I first started this project of mine, I was doing it solely to curb my bad case of wanderlust and to learn just a bit more about my city. Obviously you can not come to this coast of Florida and not see the beach so, I will let the pictures do the talking as you view quite possibly the most beautiful part of Sarasota.

Have you ever played tourist in your town?

Weekending

Happy Monday Lovlies! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I am linking up with
Meg from Mingle Monday and Biana from B Loved Boston
F R I D A Y
Owen, John's brother who is in the Air Force left from Massachusetts for his first base assignment in Arizona! We are so so proud of him! For his basic training graduation, we bought him a personalized knife display and challenge coin holder so I am super excited to see it all set up now! I pretty much hung around the house for various appointments then went running with the dogs and holy heck was it hot out! Since, J got stuck at work well past dinner time, I treated myself to a large glass of wine and arrabiatta shrimp pasta.

In Sarasota, you know when Spring has come because that is when all the festivals and concerts start. The first festival of the season is always the Desoto Seafood Fest. They have tons..I am talking like 80+ vendors, rides, crafts, competitions, etc for the weekend and it is always a blast. They also have several bands come. This year they had Colt Ford, Montgomery Gentry, and Sam Woolf. We indulged lots of crawfish, shrimp, beer, and country music! We also brought the pups...of course!

J and I had to register for next semesters classes so, we stalked our laptops until the sections opened. Afterwards, we lounged before going for a late lunch/early dinner at Square 1 Burgers. On the way home we treated ourselves to our second birthday cake frapp-judge us if you must. We spent the rest of the afternoon/night watching movies, cleaning and since we had a late lunch, we decided that a watermelon would be a good decision for dinner...hi adult life!

Anyways, I hope you all had great weekends and have an even better week!

But First...

lemme take a self-.. get a Birthday Cake Frappuchino

um..yeah ladies and gents, you read that right! according to this article and about 25 others that I read, for five days only, Starbucks is making birthday cake fraps in honor of the anniversary of the :! yaaassss! and, double yaasssss because, calories don't count on weekends...right???

anyways, back to the regularly scheduled weekly recap, I am linking up with:
Karli for Oh Hey Friday!
All of the girls for 5 on Friday
All of the girls for High Five Friday
Jennie for Friday Favorites
Rebecca for That Friday Blog Hop
Leslie for Confessional Friday
Amanda for Friday Favorites
Desiree for TGIF Blog Hop

**most of this post is food related so...hopefully you have a full belly!**

1. If you don't have an instagram or twitter then what are you doing with your life?? you may not be aware that monday was #nationalpuppyday...so obviously you know I was blowing the social media outlets up with these sweet faces

in honor of #nationalpuppyday, we also made it a grill night and did turkey burgers...of course we made doggy friendly ones as well (without onions/seasoning) but failed at getting a picture of them eating their burgers as our dogs are insane.

2. Networking is a beautiful thing. Through giveaway entries and bloghops, I found Jasmine's blog Classy, Sassy& a bit Smartassy-which I love reading! She and Jessica from Wifesticated have started a new bloghop/networking idea. the facebook page can be found here. I really like this idea as it is more of a "get to know one another and grow your blog" as opposed to aimlessly following blog after blog. The facebook page is also a great forum to ask questions or get advice!

3. like I said, this post will have a lot of food in it so:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes and Edible Cookie Dough...oh yeah-egg free!
J and I both had a bit of a rough week/raging sweet tooth so, I made him cupcakes and I scoured the whole foods sweet section and zeroed in on this babe-again, yaasssssss!

even Yoda want's some!
I also, went to trader joes on a regular trip to pick up the regular items and found Gorgonzola Gnocchi...have you ever had Panera's mac&cheese? (yes:hold on for a minute. no:...really, what are you doing with your life?) well it is ahhhh-mazing! anyways, this gnocchi from TJs is literally just like it! $2.99 for a 12oz bag I had to limit myself to this baby cup because let me tell you...this gnocchi is "bae"...ugh I HATE that phrase but...you know what I mean, it is amazing

5. Two things.
#1..are any of my Bachelor girls watching Dancing with the Stars?? Prince Farming is on it and well...he is more awkward than ever. I literally feel uncomfortable watching him..it's bad y'all! Poor Witney and WHitney!

#2. umm who are you??

Pretty Little Liars left me in a serious state of shock. I was reading Marlene King's twitter and she said "if you are confused, start again from season three and rewatch up until this finale-it will make sense". #hurryupjune10th

6. Just for kicks, lets throw in a #6 for this 5 on Friday.. this ladies is why my boyfriend is the best!

Last night, J didn't get home from work until 9pm (he worked from 4am-9pm..!) but, when he got home, he asked if I wanted anything as he was warming up dinner and I said "maybe just a glass of wine" He hooked a girl up! #fulltothetop again, yaassss!

Anyways, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend-and enjoy all the birthday cake frappuchinos you can drink!

A Few of Our Favorite Things: The Dog Edition

this post is written in collaboration with Chewy. The Merrick dog treats and Kong balls were sent to us to review. All comments and opinions are my own and 100% honest.

Hi! This is Yoda and Chloe and our mom is letting us take over Coffee&Glitter today! If you don't know about us yet, well, 1. you must be living under a rock because our parents are obsessed with us and talk about us all the time 2. you can meet us more formally here

As we said before, we are pretty much a big deal in our house and we get spoiled daily with cuddles, toys, treats, and activities. We wanted to share some of our favorite things with you and maybe you can try them out with your furry ones!

Dog Bowls/Food/Collar
Bowtie/Treats/Kong Balls
Crate

1. Our momma is a monogram queen. She says "if it isn't monogrammed, is it really even yours??" so naturally, we have personalized dog bowls!

2. Because we were both underweight dogs, mom is really big on making sure we eat really good food. We have tried several different brands but right now, we are loving Blue Buffalo's Chicken and Wild Rice formula..we get way excited for breakfast and dinner!

3&4. Mom likes us to look fabulous at all times so, if we are not rockin' our Patriots or Red Sox Jerseys, we are stylin' in our Boots&Barkley collars. Sometimes, mom puts a bowtie on Yoda's-he's dapper.

5. T R E A T S...what dog doesn't like treats?? again, since we have had issues with our weight and foods, mom makes sure we have good treats as well as food. Thanks to Chewy, she found out about these Merrick all natural treats and boy are they yummy! These treats are grain and gluten free and are made with chicken, potatoes, peas and carrots!

6. Balls.-We love to play. We play so hard that mom has to look for toys that are basically indestructible really a bit crazy. So far, the two brands that we have yet to get through are Kong Air Dogs and Chuck It Balls.

7. Car rides! Mom and Dad take us everywhere with them. Sometimes, if they are really busy they will drop us of a puppy daycare and we get to take home a bandana. We have been to home depot, target, walmart, the car wash-our fav, starbucks and more!

8. On the rare occasion that mom and dad can not take us with them, they put us in a crate. Not because we are bad but, we get bored and like to jump on the kitchen counters or push all the pillows and blankets off the couch...oops. But, because we love each other so much, we prefer to be crated together so dad found this Guardian Gear Crate. We have the large size.

9. We love to snuggle. We snuggle together and with our mom and dad while they are working or watching tv. Their favorite thing is when they get all comfy and we jump up and force ourselves between them!

All in all, we are two very spoiled and well loved dogs! What are some of your dogs favorite things??

Get Fit Thursdays {Me, Currently}

Hi dolls! I am collaborating with Alicia from Being Holy and Healthy and Tayler from the Morrell Tale for our series, Get Fit Thursdays. The purpose of this collab is to share our tips and motivation strategies with you as well as fresh and healthy recipes. Being three-four months into the 'new year', the work out flings and resolutions have kind of fizzed out but we are determined to stay on track.

So, not going to lie, I went back and forth for weeks on how to approach this topic and I decided to just be honest and be real. I think it is difficult for anyone to be completely happy with their body. Confidence is one thing, and a great thing at that but everyone has some insecurities and mine happens to be my stomach area. Although I work out each area of my body, my stomach is the area that just won't flatten. My main goal currently is to find a great workout plan for my stomach.

In the spirit of being real with my readers, here is where I am currently:
I am 140 pounds and confident in most things other than a swimsuit which, is not ideal for the summer season coming up.So, each of us have taken our own spin on this series and mine is: simple, easy, and quick workouts with great results for the everyday person.

Basically, I am stuck at a plateau and it sucks.

A weight-loss plateau is when you are stuck at the same weight even though you are practicing a healthy diet and working out. Let’s just say you have been running two miles a day and eating the same diet. You lost fifteen pounds on that routine. This week you continued that routine, but the scale stayed the same. You did everything you were supposed to, but your weight hit a plateau. The more weight you lose, the higher chances are for hitting a plateau.
Why Do Plateaus Happen?
As you lose muscle from working out, your metabolism slows down. When you gain muscle your metabolism speeds up. As you lose weight, your body burns calories a lot slower, because it has less to feed. Your body is also smart, it knows when you are trying to take away from it. If you are constantly in fat burning mode it will fight against you making it more difficult for you to lose weight. You have to trick your body.
Plateaus are frustrating. They happen to almost everyone who is on a weight-loss journey. It is important not to get frustrated with plateaus. Finding motivation to push forward and not fall back into old habits is important. There are a bunch of different methods to escape them, but how do you know which one to choose?
I have tried just about every method. Some worked and some…a disaster. Here are some do’s/don’ts based on my experience:
Do:
– Increase your calories and increase your workouts.
– Change your workout routine. Try new classes or focus on new muscles.
– Continue to eat healthy, but take a couple days off working out to allow your body to relax and your muscles to rebuild.
– Have a cheat meal to increase your leptin levels, shocking your metabolism, causing it to speed up.
– Relax. Find a way to relive your stress. Yoga a couple times a week can help relax your body and muscles.
– Treat yourself. Depriving can cause stress and binge eating.
– Add strength training and weight lifting into your work out routine to speed up metabolism.
– Calorie cycle. Don’t eat the same amount of calories everyday. Go up and down, but never under your recommended intake. If you go under, you will put your body in a starvation mode. That will seriously damage your body.
– Increase your water intake to speed your metabolism.
– Eat more fiber.
– Increase your social life activities. Going out and clearing your mind from a weight-loss plateau can help you relax and push forward.
– Be patient. It didn’t take you overnight to gain the unwanted weight. It won’t come off overnight either.
Don’t:
– Weigh yourself. Focus on the measuring tape. Your scale may not be changing, but you may be losing inches.
– Cut your calories and increase your workouts.
– Cut your calories and decrease your workouts.
– Eat junk food after working out.
– Eat the same thing over and over.
– Take a diet supplement.
– Cut out fruits.
– Eat strictly three meals a day.
– Give up.
These are some of my trial and errors when it comes to the weight loss plateau. It’s important to not give up. Try a couple different things. I’d love to hear your plateau tips too!

The Boyfriend Chronicles {Pt. 2: We Live Together}

part 1

So, it is no secret and hasn't been a secret that John and I live together...what most people don't know though, is how quickly we moved in together and why.

J and I met in 2013.We became "official" about a month after we met and started hanging out together. We clicked pretty instantly and it just worked. The inevitable sleepovers started happening shortly after that. We lived about 25 minutes away from each other so it wasn't a big deal to shack up and one another's place and we are both dog lovers so that was never an issue either.
About five months after becoming official, my lease at the time was quickly coming to an end. I spent many weekends going from place to place to find somewhere new to live because I didn't want to renew the lease I was in. It was about three weeks before my lease ended and he came to me with an offer.

At the time, he was living with his Uncle Walter and 16 year old cousin on the next city over. He was helping them out because Walter drives trucks for a living and was pretty much only home for one weekend out of the month. Being that his cousin was only 16, he was still a "minor" so John was his guardian of sorts and made sure the house was taken care of, dinner was made, dogs were all set and mostly that the 16 year old was at school, had the things he needed, etc. Anyways, Walter and John came to me with an offer. Basically they said "if you can't find anywhere to live by the time you lease is up, we will move you, your stuff, and your pup into our house in exchange for you "rechecking" to make sure things are done" To some, this sounded like a crappy deal but, it was actually amazing. John and his cousin, Alek were both super responsible, all of our dogs got along, his uncle was awesome and, it was all a verbal agreement so, had something not worked out, I could have just moved out scotch free. I consulted with my parents and they said to go for it as it was closer to my work at the time and they love J.
J was the absolute sweetest during the whole process. He and his uncle literally packed and moved all of my things and gave me a huge closet in the house. Alek was super sweet too. The boys kept things pretty clean and we were able to figure out a chore chart of sorts so absolutely nothing was just dumped on me..I naturally took the "job" of making dinners because cooking a hobby I love.

So, the time went on of the 3/4 of us living together and things were really great. We lived in that house for about 5 months. In February, Walter decided to take a job closer to home so that he could be around more. He said we were more than welcome to stay but, it got a little crampt for John and I with the two of them, the 5 dogs, and the girlfriends of his uncle and cousin so, after a long talk, we decided to venture out on our own and find our first place-just the two of us.
It took a little bit of time but we wanted it to be perfect so we weren't in a rush. So far, living together has taught us a lot about one another. Not everyday is perfect and we definitely have had our fair share of fights but, to us, it definitely wasn't and hasn't been as intense as some people say it is. I'll be totally honest, I think I got super lucky with John because he is super laid back and is easy to please. We don't fight about space or how things are set up..actually he left that up to me.
He's a pretty stellar guy and although some people felt the need to give us their opinion on us moving in together so "soon", we have one another and our families backing us so, we're all good.

The Local Tourist Project {Pt.4: The Rosemary District}

That was the case until I came across the Rosemary District of Sarasota County. This district is home to the first Black Community here. This was a pretty neat plaque and I got a little caught in the moment and didn't take as many pictures as I wish I had.
I snapped the few you will see below and spent the rest of my time in the Rosemary District talking to some of the residents. I explained to them what I was doing in their part of town with a camera and they actually thought it was pretty neat. We talked about the changes they had seen in Sarasota County throughout the time that they had been here and offered me lunch.

A neighborhood with such a high historical value is a gem in a city like mine. I am a little surprised that I hadn't heard about this before I stumbled upon it myself but hey, that is the whole point of this little project of mine!
