Get Fit Thursdays {Work Out Essentials}

Hi dolls! I am collaborating with Alicia from Being Holy and Healthy and Tayler from the Morrell Tale for our series, Get Fit Thursdays. The purpose of this collab is to share our tips and motivation strategies with you as well as fresh and healthy recipes.

This week, I am going to go over my work out essentials! To me, it is crucial to be prepared for your gym date or workout!

fit bit/iPhone/dove deodorant

obviously, when working out, it is important to stay hydrated! I like bottles with markers on them so I can easily keep track of how much water I have consumed throughout the day. Obviously you can buy these types of bottles or, make your own with a sharpie!

Investing in a really good pair of running shoes is also very important. I like Nike running shoes as I typically run 2-3 times a week and also go to the gym 1-2 times.

Make up wipes, dry shampoo, deodorant, etc. are all important to me because I like to be able to be presentable once finishing a work out just incase I have any errands to run.

I like to bring a yoga mat along because gym floors are gross and I like to be able to do a combo of floor exersizes as well as machines. Mats are also great for home work outs.

Fit bit/Phone/Headphones: well, obvs!

What are your work out essentials?

The Boyfriend Chronicles {Pt. 3: Pros of Living With Your Man}

So, if you have been following along, I am kind of doing a series type thing focusing on J's and my relationship. Part 1 is here and Part 2 is here

If you live or have lived with a guy, you know that there are some hardships but, because I am being a "Positive Polly" and not a "Negative Nancy" today, I am here to point of the plus side of living with a boy!

#1: First and foremost, food. Living with a boy brings lots and lots of yummy food with it! If you ever need an ice cream binge night, I guarantee your man will back you up eat it with you! J and I have many late night fro-yo dates!

#2:The endless supply of baggy comfy boyfriend clothes..HELLO!
Your lazy days just got 100 times more comfy!

#3 Movie nights. Lots and lots of movie nights. I know for J, he'd much rather order in and pick out a movie on demand than go out and sometimes, thats nice!

#4 if y'all are dating but not officially living together yet, that next step of moving in eliminates that awful post sleepover morning scavenger hunt for clean clothes or at least a decent work appropriate outfit/all of your clothes will be in one place-rather than some at your place and some at his...we have all been there #nojudgement

#5 All the snuggles your little heart can take! Before work, after work and allll night you, you have someone to hold you.

#6 Forget always having to feel like you need to wear your best or most decorative VS thong...break out the comfy underwear and own it...
I bet he'll even compliment you a time or two.

#7 Scared of bugs? #byefelicia! We all know every guy wants to show off how "macho" he is so, have no fear, your boyfriend is here to capture that teeny tiny spider you see!

#8 No more shaving every day! He'll learn to accept you..I never get this bad though!

#9 Your bank account will thank you. If your boyfriend is like mine, the bills will be split equally! Thats half the utility bills..half the grocery bills and half the rent/mortgage. #hellonewmichaelkors

#10 You get to see your best friend errrday!

Perfect Scallops! {Recipe Swap!}

Hey y'all! I have always been into cooking but lately, I have been trying to step my game up a bit if you will. I have been taking hints/tips from various food shows, pinterest and of course, fellow bloggers!

I am linking up with Emily from Martinis& Bikinis Kate from Green Fashionista for their Recipe Swap!

scallops are a bitch. seriously. they are expensive and they are very easily screwed up. with that being said, they are my favorite food. twice a year, my dad goes to visit friends in Alaska..said friends are relatives of a fish market owner so, my dad always comes back with salmon, halibut, crab, shrimp, and most importantly, SCALLOPS! each time my dad goes, he brings me back 3-5 packages of fresh frozen scallops! I have been working on mastering the cooking technique and, I think I got it!

What You Will Need:
-scallops-duh! I had approx. 15
-3/4 cup white cooking wine
-2 TBSP butter
-1 large clove of garlic roughly chopped
-1/3 onion roughly chopped
-1 lemon
-2 TBSP sugar
- fresh parsley

What You Will Do
1. rinse the scallops in cold water for 5 minutes in strainer. Pat dry with paper towel
2. in a medium sized pan, start melting 1 TBSP of butter on medium-high heat
3. once fully melted, add in garlic and onions. sauté for 5-7 minutes or until onions become transparent
4. add the white cooking wine and juice of 1 lemon then raise the heat to high for 3 minutes
5. pour the pan sauce out and place in bowl to the side
6. add remainder of butter on a medium high heat
7. while melting,  season scallops with salt & pepper then *key step* dip flat sides (2) of scallops in the sugar
8. add directly to pan-the sugar gives the sear that you need and want
9. cook for 2 minutes on one side
10.  flip scallops to other side and cook for another 2 minutes
11. pour the pan sauce back in the pan with the scallops to heat up for one minute
12. pull the pan from the heat and plate up the scallops topping with the fresh parsley

I enjoyed these scallops with a side of Emily's brussels sprouts! (highly recommended)! and a glass of 14 Daughters Chardonnay

Do you have any scallop cooking tips or tricks?

Weekending+ MY FIRST VLOG!

Happy Monday dolls! I feel like there are never enough hours in the weekend however, I didn't even do much. It was a quiet one around here but, it was a nice change! I hope all of you had great weekends and are having a great start to this week! As usual, I will be linking up with Meg from Mingle Monday Biana from B Loved Boston for my weekend recap!

* * * * * * *
Y'all, I spent literally all day trying to get comfortable and film a vlog...and,
there ya have it! I apologize in advance for the awkwardness! It is a learning experience!

The main event of Friday night was the Bruce Jenner/Diane Sawyer interview.

.. a few of you know how I feel/felt about this via twitter but in short, I thought the interview, on JENNER's half was fabulous. I think that this was a history changing event and I pray that it will change the minds and views of all of the ignorant closed minded people we live amongst. With that being said...I really want to know why Diane Sawyer was chosen as the host. Literally a n y o n e would have been better than her. Every question she asked and every response he gave, she had this judgmental, "are you serious", disgusted look and tone... I was done with her after about 25 minutes.
The comment that set me over the edge was when Jenner's son Brandon said that he was "okay" with Jenner's decisions and Sawyer said "I mean, you can not be just okay with all of this"...*deep breaths, deep breaths* (I am getting re-heated just typing this)...who the hell are you to question what he is okay with.... woman, please! Ugh!..and on that note..

S A T U R D A Y
I met my dad for breakfast at our usual spot! It has been a hot second since we met for breakfast and it was nice!

After breakfast, I came home and pretty much relaxed for the rest of the day. I didn't sleep well Friday night so I took a bit of a nap, worked on blog posts, and caught up on some of my favorite blogs. We had a quick dinner at a local place then returned home to watch the first Fast&Furious-did y'all know that there are two more in production?!

Finally Sunday! Sunday again was super low key. We both had various homework assignments to complete, I did a bit more patio gardening and the cleaned the main areas of our house.

We finished the night off with citrus marinaded steak fajitas and blended margaritas!

If you all would be so kind, I would greatly appreciate it if you could go over to my youtube page and subscribe so you can be up to date with any future videos!

Have a great Monday loves!

Happy Friday Loves!

I hope you all had a great week and have a quick moving work day. This week was full of 'firsts' for me! Before we get into that though, I will be linking up with:
Karli for Oh Hey Friday!
All of the girls for 5 on Friday
All of the girls for High Five Friday
Jennie for Friday Favorites
Rebecca for That Friday Blog Hop
Amanda for Friday Favorites
Desiree for TGIF Blog Hop

Knock on Wood Blog | Conversations Link-Up

2. At the beginning of the week, I met up with John's cousin for a date at the Urgent Care and lunch! Last week, he managed to injure his lip and required stitches. This was the first time he had ever had them and it was the first time I had ever watched someone get them removed.

The doctor was super sassy and got a bit nasty about me taking video/photos so, this is the best that I could do. We celebrated with spicy bloody's and seafood!

3. So, it is no secret how obsessed I am with the show on Food Network, Chopped. Well, the other night we were watching it J looked at me and said, "you should apply"..I laughed it off and said "yeah, right"

Well, after a bit of thinking, I decided that it wouldn't hurt to just apply so, we will see what happens!

4. So, I am sure that you all know what 'vlogging' is but, on the off chance that you don't it is a video form of blogging. I have wanted to start vlogging for quite a while because I feel like somethings are better explained or shown verbally.

Let me tell you, it is much harder than it looks! I tried for a straight hour yesterday and kept fumbling words or just felt awkward. I am determined though so, I will try again today!

5. Y'all! I am only 10 followers away from 500 on me a favor and get me to 500?!

I'd love you forever!

Finally, what a better way to start your weekend than with a $200 gift card to Lululemon?!
As we're approaching bathing suit season (for some of us it's already here), I've been amping up my workouts and noticed it would be nice to have some fresh workout gear for the season. So, I teamed up with some of my bloggy favs to giveaway at $200 gift card to Lululemon. We all know their clothes are not cheap, so the lucky winner can go on a shopping spree on us to get a jump start on their workout wardrobe for the warmer months. Good luck!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Be safe and have fun!

#thestruggle Of Curly Hair

This post is sponsored and affiliated with Ulta Beauty. The products sent by them have " * " next to them. All of the thoughts, opinions, comments, and pictures are that of my own. These are all products I have used prior to Ulta Beauty contacting me.

So let me just tell you, I was adopted when I was three days old by the sweetest but whitest little couple around. I had this big 'ol afro and my poor momma tried everything to tame it down. It caused her to cry. It tangled itself up. It was always a hotmess. It was my hair.

For the majority of my middle school/high school career, I went from stylist to stylist begging them to fry my hair. I straightened it every day, had 50+ relaxers put in it..I just wanted straight hair.

Once I left for college, I started to embrace my curly nap and well, I kinda like it now.

if you have dealt with even half of the struggles I have with curly hair, you will know that the products that really work, are not cheap! I have a mix of higher end/higher priced items and more reasonably priced products.

Alas: my curly hair saviors:
1. Ouidad Curl Quencher Moisturizing Shampoo&Conditioner  $18/$26 *
2. Marc Anthony Kinky Girls Shampoo&Conditioner $7.99*
3. Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave In Conditioner $10.99*
4. Ouidad Climate Control Gel $26*
5. Marc Anthony Kinky Girls Oil Treatment $7.99*
6. Ouidad Hydrafrusion Styling Cream $26*
Wide tooth comb $1+

*my hair has been classified as "type 3C" hair and this is what has worked best for me*

What I Do:
Due to the price difference, I limit myself to using the Ouidad shampoo and conditioner only when my hair is extra dry or unruly.
-So, I wash my hair with shampoo 1-2 times a week. The other days, I just condition. While in the shower, I finger detangle my hair and use the wide tooth come to get out any little tangles.
-Once out of the shower, before putting anything in my hair, I again run the wide tooth comb through. Then, I start with the Shea Moisture Leave In Conditioner. I am pretty heavy handed with this. I use about 1/4 of a cup. Working it into the ends and scalp especially.
-I then go in with the Marc Anthony Kinky Curls Oil Treatment-I use 2 pumps (about a quarter size) for my whole head, again focusing on the scalp and ends.
-I then work the Ouidad Hydrafusion Styling Cream in. I use again about a quarter sized amount.
-I will then use a little over a quarter amount of the Ouidad Climate Control Gel I really focus this on the little hairs framing my face and the center of the back of my head.
-I will occasionally use a diffusor on a low heat and high blow for 10 minutes near my scalp but I more commonly let my hair air dry.

But...then there are those days when I need straight hair so...

1. Suave Moroccan Infusion Shampoo&Conditioner $9.99
2. Aveda Smooth Infusions $19.99
3. Herbal Essences Moroccan Oil $5.99
4. Herbal Essences Heat Protectant Spray $3.99
5. Herbal Essences Dry Shampoo $4.99
Conair 1" Flat Iron
What I Do:
-When I know I am going to straighten my hair, I will wash and condition it with the Suave Moroccan Infusions shampoo&conditioner combo.
-As soon as I am out of the shower, I will use a tangle-free brush and get out all of the tangles. I then make a little "cocktail" of a quarter sized amount of the Aveda Smooth Infusions and two pumps of the Herbal Essences Morroccan Oil. I work that all through my hair from roots to tips. Finally, I will spray it all over with the Herbal Essences Heat Protectant spray.
-I then use my blowdryer and dry it completely. Finally, I section it all off and straighten 2in sections at a time!

Do you have any curly or straight hair tips? What do you use for your hair?

Classy, Sassy & a Bit Smartassy

The other night, J and I were both craving comfort food. We weren't feeling very well and just wanted to veg. I called my mom and asked her for a "homey" recipe. Here is what she gave me:

What You Will Need
-bone-in pork chops
-2 table spoons of olive oil
-1 small onion (1/3 cup finely diced the rest thinly sliced)
-2 cloves of garlic (one finely diced the rest thinly sliced)
-rosemary finely chopped
-1 cup white wine
-1/4 cup of orange juice
-paprika to taste
-sea salt to taste
-red pepper flakes to taste
-1/4 cup of butter

What You Will Do
1. preheat oven to 375*
2. place the butter in a large skillet on a medium to high heat and let melt. stir periodically until it starts to brown not burn! add diced onions
3. once onions have cooked down, place the butter/onion mixture, diced garlic, rosemary, orange juice, paprika, salt, and red pepper flakes into a food processor and blend well into a paste.
4. rub the pork chops with paprika and salt then place in the same skillet you used for the onions on a medium high heat and get a nice sear on each side.
5. place chops in an oven safe dish, pour the spice paste on top then add white wine to cover the bottom
6. add the thinly sliced onions and garlic over top then garnish with a sprig of rosemary and orange slices.
7. pop in the oven for 20-25 minutes depending on thickness
8. let rest for 5 minutes and enjoy!

Hair Goals, Banana Bread Beer& Bugs in Our House?!

Happy Monday dolls! I hope you have all recovered from your #PinkSunday festivities! I have to say, I am pretty disappointed in myself...I failed at the Lilly for Target launch. I made it our with one pair of shorts. The clerks working said that the line started forming at 430. They were only letting groups of 10 in at a time. They opened at 8 and were sold out of Lilly by 825am. They did inform me thought that they will be receiving more in on Friday! Anyways, I am linking up with Meg from Mingle Monday and Biana from B Loved Boston to recap on the rest of the weekend!

I got an awesome work out in early in the morning. I used to have a trainer but it was getting to be way too expensive so lately I have been running the two sets of stairs in my complex and using these workouts and apps. I like being able to work out at home as I tend to get a bit self conscious in a gym setting. Anyways, I woke up, answered emails, worked out, then met my momma for lunch at quite possibly the best seafood place in Sarasota.
I also have #hairgoals now. I have never been super confident about my curly hair so, since I was in seventh grade, I have straightened it. I was looking at it the other day in awe of how unhealthy it is. So, I went to Ulta and was there for about 45 minutes talking to one of the girls with hair similar to mine about what to do and how to save my hair. She said to swear off heat for the next good while. I bought a ton of products and have made a 'promise' of sorts to myself to not straighten my hair until my birthday in August!
bwatuwant on Instagram is my current inspiration. Obviously my hair will not be even close to this long come August but, this is my goal in the hair world!

Emily+I finalized her flight to Orlando in August and our hotel for my birthday celebrations! We have also preplanned our fast passes and my birthday night! I am so excited for this trip! I also finalized everything for my euro-trip in May! France, Italy, I'm comin' for ya!

J and I usually use Saturday nights for our 'date nights'. We had planned to go see Furious 7 and do dinner but, he had a killer headache so we just did a quick dinner at Square 1 and then returned home. A bit later, I met a few of the girls I used to work with for a quick drink at WOB. I had the Banana Bread Beer and holy cow-yum! It literally tastes just like banana bread!

J went into work and did his thing while I cleaned up around the house. I figured that it was a good time to put the Easter decor away and break out the summer decor...and I found some bugs hanging around our plants...
When J was done at work, we took a family trip to Starbucks and then tried our luck at Target which you have read was pretty unsuccessful.

We decided to see a matinée of Furious 7 and holy cow y'all, I was in tears at several different places. Without giving anything away, I will say that the movie was completed amazingly and the ending was done extraordinarily well.

After fixing my makeup and taking an afternoon nap, we met my momma for dinner at Cody's Roadhouse!

All in all, it was a fabulous weekend! I hope each and every one of you had equally great weekends and have a fabulous Monday! Don't forget to stop by tomorrow as I am co-hosting the Grow Your Blog Blog Hop!

Before You Go...

As we're approaching bathing suit season (for some of us it's already here), I've been amping up my workouts and noticed it would be nice to have some fresh workout gear for the season.
